Yahoo! has been around since 1994 or 1995, depending if you count their IPO as the beginning or not. The History of Yahoo! – How It All Started… According to Alexa.com, Yahoo! still hangs on to the top spot in traffic rankings. With MSN second and Google in third. Yahoo! and Google have been engaged in an ongoing battle over Search Engine Industry with for a number of years. MSN is also a late comer in the mix. All three companies also have offer free email services. Hotmail was first, then Yahoo! Mail and later Gmail.
I have personal email accounts with all three companies. Recently I was unable to log on my Yahoo! Mail because for some reason it just wouldn’t load the mailbox. So, in order to let people know that I was unable to check my mail I posted a simple message on my personal blog. (which happens to be on Blogger.com, owned by Google.)
“Yahoo Mail
Well it appears that I may be the only one that is having problems with Yahoo mail. I can’t seem to log in for some reason. It just keeps giving me a 404 error (not found). I’ve tried 4 different computers. The weird thing is I seem to be able to do everything else with Yahoo.
I don’t know how long it is going to last. So, if anyone is trying to get a hold of me try one of my other emails. Or post here…”
My mail came back online later that evening, but I forgot to post that it was back up. I suspected it was a server issue. Maybe a DOS attack or something like that.
Then someone posted the following comment:
“We were having some issues with a few machines on Sunday that have since been resolved. Let me know if you’re still getting the 404.”
Turns out one the tech guys at Yahoo! Mail found my blog and responded to my posting. I hadn’t put in a request with them or even reported to them that I was having an issue. From a customer service standpoint, it’s pretty impressive that they found me when I was having a problem, rather than me having to go searching for someone to help me. Maybe this is their secret to staying on top?
Respect! Keep up the good work Yahoo!
