How important is SEO for a small recruiting firm?
A website is a must-have, but how important is SEO (search engine optimization)? Does one really need to have their site to show up in the first page(s) on search engines? My personal take on it that it’s not a very high priority since most of our business is not driven through our sites.
What do you think? Have you invested in SEO services?
Thanks!

A client of mine from the staffing industry, Scott Fiore, forwarded your question to me. I worked with Scott when his company rebuilt their entire site. We ended up optimizing the site in general and specifically 5 landing pages. You can see more about this at the following link: http://tinyurl.com/63kbto
To answer your question: Optimizing your site is paramount. Although, the recruiting industry is very large, a Google search on “recruiting agencies” produces over 36 Million results. So you need to take it a step further and target keywords for local search or long tail. For example: “administrative staffing lancaster pa”. Where Lancaster would be one of the cities where you operate.
I don’t mean to say that SEO is more important than referrals and contacts or even the other way around. The fact of the matter is people are using the internet more and more for… well, pretty much everything. Plus, in a time when the economy is not doing well, everyone needs to find new cost effective ways to drive business to their company. In regards to your website, some questions you should ask:
What are our goals of having a website?
How is the site being used?
Who is visiting and how are they getting there?
What are visitors doing once they get to the site?
Does the site align with the goals of the company?
You’ve already invested the time and money in building a website. With SEO and Website Analytics you can use it to it’s full potential and increase your ROI for the site. Plus, your company will benefit from a new stream of potential revenue.
