This is a short video from Matt Cutts where he answers a question about “over optimization with no follow”. He states that sites won’t be penalized if they use a lot of no follow links. What I found interesting is that he casually mentions, keyword stuffing and hidden text, then says dial it back a little from these things. He almost makes it sound like these things are ok, but users will not like them. I’m pretty sure that both keyword stuffing and hidden text are two major things that will get your site tagged as spam. I guess since he was answering a question about no follow links he didn’t want to focus on this. Although, if you are optimizing a site, I highly recommend not using these tactics.
