FC Blackbird took the bronze in the Keystone Games at Lanco Field House over the weekend. After a slow start in their first game losing 4-1 to Cyrus, Blackbird came out and trounced Juventus 5-1. They then clinched the top spot in their bracket by defeating State College United 7-1. Later they showed their confidence by getting by LD Falcons in the quarterfinals.
Surprisingly all four teams from the FC Blackbird bracket were able to advance to the semi-finals, which meant the team would face Cyrus for a second time. This time they were prepared, but Cyrus managed to pull a surprising win with a goal in the last second of play, eliminating Blackbird from the final game for the gold. Instead, they faced State College United for the bronze medal match. Blackbird was able to end the tournament on a high note by defeating State College again 7-2 and winning the bronze.
The team was comprised of players from the back to back O-30 outdoor champions Berks United, B&B Yamaha as well as other various teams, including the leading goal scorer Rudi who is a former pro player from the Bundesliga. (FC Nüremburg)
