This year for the Super Bowl, Mercedes-Benz is putting it’s money where it’s social media is. Um, it’s Twitter where it’s… uh, gas tank is. Anyway! They’ve created The World’s first Twitter-Fueled Race. In the first part of the contest contestants Tweeted #mbtweetrace and the winners were picked based on their Klout score. (Klout is a site that measures Twitter influence.)
The race will start on February 2 and finish on February 4 at Cowboys Stadium outside of Dallas Texas. The four teams, each consisting of two people, will drive from New York, L.A., Chicago or Tampa in specially outfitted Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and finish in Dallas, TX for the big game. Each team will also be supported by a Twitter savvy celebrity. The four celebs are:
Pete Wentz: Grammy nominated bass player for the band, Black Cards.
Serena Williams: A 13 time grand-slam winning tennis player.
Nick Swisher: A New York Yankee, an MLB All-Star and World Series Champion.
Rev Run: (Yeah, I had no idea who he was either) A founding member of the rap group Run DMC.
Competing for two 2012 C-Class Coupes, each team will be helped by their Twitter-Celeb, who will act as a coach to rev up the teams Twitter followers. The cars will then be ‘fueled’ by Twitter activity during the race.
