We’re Building a Portfolio in the Soccer Industry

I’ve been quietly building a portfolio in the soccer industry, and I’m building a portfolio, not just because I love the game or because it’s a beautiful game, but because the industry’s broken in a lot of ways that people aren’t able to fix.

I’ve been playing since I was a kid. I still play.  I also coached. I’m actually going to coach again this season, and I’ve built businesses in the space, and my agency does marketing for soccer businesses, and I keep seeing the same thing over and over again. Clubs are getting stuck, and coaches are burned out.

Facilities are underperforming. Barely making it, and promised brands are flying under the radar, and they aren’t able to succeed. The thing is, the game is beautiful, but oftentimes the business side of things just is not; it’s messy. It’s unoptimized, it’s underfunded. That’s why I’m building a network of soccer brands, and that includes things like platforms, products, services, facilities, maybe in some clubs.

And they’re all run like real businesses. That means with strategy, with systems, with scale in mind.

And as I work through this, I plan to share my progress as I go. So, if you’re building something in the industry or you want to, or you have some ideas about something we do in the industry, then follow along and let’s grow the industry from the inside out.
