To All Facebook Users — Make Sure You Read the New Terms of Use

This afternoon when I logged into my Facebook account, I was greeted with a message from the powers that be at Facebook. Here is the message.

“Today we announced new opportunities for users to play a meaningful role in determining the policies governing our site. We released the first proposals subject to these procedures – The Facebook Principles, a set of values that will guide the development of the service, and Statement of Rights and Responsibilities that governs Facebook’s operations. Users will have the opportunity to review, comment and vote on these documents over the coming weeks and, if they are approved, other future policy changes. We’ve posted the documents in separate groups and invite you to offer comments and suggestions. For more information and links to the two groups, check out the Facebook Blog“.

There has been quite a discussion about the new “Terms of Use” that Facebook posted a couple of weeks ago. The backlash was so great that it prompted them to revert to the old “ToU”. Some of the biggest complaints were surrounding the idea that FB wants to use your information and content in anyway they see fit, privacy issues and how third parties use your information.

I urge anyone that uses Facebook to engage in the discussion and become informed. How this is handled could set a precedence for other social networking sites.

Everyone is talking about OpenAI. And many people have been saying that it will (and other AI platforms) will replace content creation and content sites.
